Surviving on Sky Flakes and Sustagen

lira

Being pregnant and staying at home was an idea that I thought was fantastic. I thought that I will have plenty of time catching up on the activities I missed doing ( reading novels, watching DVDs, re-learning to play the keyboards) and completing the tasks I have been putting off for some time now (reviewing for exams, answering the Kiwi Ora course, & cleaning up the house). I was wrong.

For three weeks now, I have been suffering from “all day pregnancy sickness”. It is not simply a “morning sickness” that most women experience. Upon waking up, I throw up. My sense of smell has become overly sensitive that I could not anymore get inside the malls because even at the entrance, I immediately vomit upon sniffing a mixture of odors. Yuck!! Therefore, I have not been cooking ( I hope I am not starving ‘Cias) and ‘Cias is forced to cook when he’s hungry which is also a good thing so that he’ll learn to make some dishes. And when he’s in the kitchen, I have to stay inside the bedroom. When I’m terribly hungry, I munch on SkyFlakes. To make up for my poor eating, Cias makes Sustagen (hospital formula pa na ya) drink for me. During the day, when the cold wind blows and my feet gets cold, I throw up. This is awful. If only I could sleep through my pregnancy and wake up only when it’s time to deliver the baby, I would do that.

During this time, I am fortunately comforted by the support that ‘Cias has been showing me. I am relieved when he massages my back before sleeping and everytime I vomit. I am grateful that he drops by the groceries to get me anything that I could eat even if I don’t actually eat them. I love to see the expression in his face when sometimes, I would blurt out to say that I would like to eat Jollibee spaghetti, La Paz Batchoy, hot bibingka, or nilaga sang Sir sa Silay. (ma-imagine niyo? Haha!) Kaluoy man si baby, deprived siya of Filipino food. Sometimes, during my worst moments, we consider that I go home.

I just hope that this won’t last for 9 months. I hope that it’s gonna be over soon….
