phishing on Equitable PCI’s FastNet
When I reached the office this morning, I hurriedly opened my e-mail if something new comes up from the Mobster Network blog. *smiles* Then I came about this e-mail. The e-mail came from Equitable PCI Bank asking me to login to my account because of unsuccessful login attempts. Here's the e-mail message:
Dear Equitable PCI Bank Member! Our system has detected unsuccessful login attempt to your Equitable PCI Bank account! Please login to your account and review recent activity in order to prevent unauthorized use of your account by third-parties. Click here to proceed. Thank you!
Security Notification coming from Equitable PCI I was a bit shocked at first since I don't have an account from this bank (no pun intended). Gullible as I am, I clicked the link and was forwarded to this site (http://www.fastnet.hk/login.asp).
It's an exact replica of the FastNet website (Equitable PCI's Internet Banking website). So I checked the source code (you can do that by clicking View, Source for IE or View, Page Source on Mozilla) to find any discrepancies and this is what I got.
The site is definitely copied from the FastNet website using HTTrack Website Copier.
The code is also altered from the original. Lastly, the email came from support-6584t@equitablepcib.com . And I don't think Equitable PCI is using this e-mail address for support. So I said to myself that this must be a phishing e-mail. For everyone's information, Wikipedia defines phishing as
In computing, phishing is a criminal activity using social engineering techniques. Phishers attempt to fraudulently acquire sensitive information, such as passwords and credit card details, by masquerading as a trustworthy person or business in an electronic communication. Phishing is typically carried out using email or an instant message, although phone contact has been used as well. Attempts to deal with the growing number of reported phishing incidents include legislation, user training, and technical measures.
So if you happened to receive this e-mail as well, please do not open it. Email or alert any personnel from Equitable PCI about this. Polds, I hope you can do something about this.
