Gmail facelift

Fans of Gmail will surely love this.

Tired of the old boring Gmail interface? If your answer is yes, then you don’t have to suffer no more.

Recently, Lifehacker released a Firefox extension named, Better Gmail. This Firefox extension will transform your lifeless Gmail default look into a sexy superclean interface. And not only that, it can also do things like adding saved searches, attachment icons, label colors, keyboard macros, a filter assistant and right-click conversation previews.

How do I install this?

First things first: You need a better browser to match Better Gmail, right? So you need to have Firefox installed, since it’s a Firefox extension afterall. If you haven’t done so, please download Firefox using the link above. Look for the text that says, “Browse the web faster. Get Firefox with Google Toolbar — FREE!” then click it to download.

Installation: Download Better Gmail here using your Firefox browser. A yellow bar will appear across the page that reads “Firefox prevented this site (lifehacker.com) from asking you to install software on your computer.” Click the “Edit Options” button and allow lifehacker.com to ask you. Then, click on the link again. Press the Install button in the dialog box, and restart Firefox.

Usage: Once Better Gmail is installed, log in to your Gmail account to see the enhancements. Turn a feature on or off, visit the extensions Preferences dialog (Tools, Add-ons, [Better Gmail], Options) on your browser and select or deselect the appropriate checkboxes. Refresh Gmail to see the changes.

Here are some screenshots of the features.

Now, will you look back to Gmail’s dull look again? I don’t think so. All I can say is, Gmail is much better looking now.
