A book worth reading

jo*rose

At last, I’m done reading ERAGON and boy am I yearning to get hold of the next installation. Even though I was delighted to watch the movie, I can say now that the people who made it, didn’t do justice. It was way far from what Christopher Paolini told in the book. But I guess to save money and make the story short; they had to do it that way. Without the movie anyway, I wouldn’t be so interested in acquiring the book.

I’ve seen the dragon from the book cover plenty of times from the Young Adults section of Powerbooks. But I didn’t get much courage to reach out and read through its pages before. I would only stare at the cover and move on to the next book. What I didn’t know until now is that it’s an interesting piece, something worthy to be on the shelf with my Sidney Sheldon and Harry Potter books. It’s amazing how Paolini was able to make a book like it in such a young age. (Most writers don’t get published when they’re 19.) So when the movie was out so were the books. Powerbooks ran out of them and I had to make a reservation and wait for an agonizing two weeks. Hehehe! But it was worth it.Just to have a bit of an overview for the story I can’t help talking about, it was set in a medieval-like era where elves, dwarves and dragons exists. ERAGON is a farm boy turned Dragon Rider at the age of 15. He was able to find a stone (he thought) but was actually a dragon egg from the Spine. He was chosen to be the rider of the dragon egg when it hatched and gave him the silvery mark called the gedwey ignasia. Since any story wouldn’t be complete without an antagonist, a king called Galbatorix (once a dragon rider also and one of the Forsworn) was ruling the land. You see, before Saphira (Eragon’s dragon) hatched, he was owned by Galbatorix. How was it taken from him? Well, it was stolen from him by the Vardens. The Vardens are rebels who consist of elves, dwarves and humans who were against the king. Before long, Eragon was caught in the middle. Whom would he pledged his allegiance to, the Varden or the king? His sympathy went to the Vardens so he had to face Urgals and Ra’zacs and the Shade. He was able to fight them together with Saphira and of course the Varden. Although it may seem to have a simple plot from my short summary, the characters in the story made it interesting plus magic and the ancient language, voila! a good book.

I plan to read it again but for now I have to move on with another book… Bye
